Family Adventures underneath an African Sky..
Kruger National Park
Rhino Post Safari Lodge is situated at the southern end of a 12,000 hectare private wilderness concession in the Kruger National Park. The concession shares a 15km unfenced boundary with the famous Mala Mala and Sabi Sand reserve with an abundance of wildlife moving freely between the two reserves. The concession is noted as an excellent game viewing area with encounters with the Big Five and good sightings can be expected.
Set on the banks of the Mutlumuvi riverbed is a luxurious trails “base” lodge. From here guests have the option to travel to Plains Camp for walking safaris, as well as overnighting under the stars at our unique Sleepouts.
Rhino Post Safari Lodge is an elegant 16 bed lodge from where guests embark on our twice daily game drives. As well as making use of the private concession roads, Rhino Post Safari Lodge has exclusive use of some of the Kruger National Park’s public roads for evening game drives, well after gate closing times (sunset), ensuring guests an unforgettable experience.
The nature of a wilderness area is that there are no permanent structures, so Rhino Post Safari Lodge was built using natural materials of stone, wood, thatch and canvas to create an authentic bush ambience. Each luxury suite is exquisitely decorated and includes a spacious bedroom with impressive views of the riverbed from the bathroom, outdoor shower and decked patio.
Following a game drive, guests can relax in the revitalising swimming pool, take in the views from their shaded patio and watch the abundant wildlife amble down to the waterhole. Sumptuous meals are served in the camp’s dining area, which is set under magnificent Tamboti trees.
The lounge, with its extensive wine cellar, cosy fireplace and bar, is the perfect spot for a sundowner. The utmost care was taken to minimize the environmental impact of the lodge and to that end, no concrete was used in the buildings. Careful consideration was taken in the layout of the lodge, walkways are raised, battery power is used for lighting, a special indigenous Reedbed system processes the bathroom water and other waste is sorted and recycled wherever possible.
Rhino Post Safari Lodge offers both early morning and evening games drives. Game drive safaris are conducted in specially adapted open Landcruisers, with professional guides. To preserve our wilderness concession, no off-roading is practiced.
A typical day would include an early start, a cup of fresh coffee or tea, after which guests set out on their game drive. Guides at the lodge meet the stringent requirements of the South African National Parks and senior guides hold the highest guiding qualifications possible in South Africa, to ensure that your encounters with the African wilderness are exciting, informative and safe. In the late afternoon after a delicious high tea, you can enjoy an evening game drive, winding down with Sundowners, watching an African sunset and spotting nocturnal animals in the Park.
Rhino Post Safari Lodge offers an exceptionally unique option for their guests; a mystical sleepout underneath an African sky.
When embarking on a Sleep Out from Rhino Post you will depart on your afternoon drive after high tea and eventually before the sun sets you will arrive at the Sleep Outs.
After being orientated around the structure you will choose your platforms and the guide will light a cooking fire.
The Sleep Out platforms overlook a waterhole where you will enjoy the Sunset whilst sipping a refreshing sundowner.
While your guide prepares a traditional South African braai on an open fire, you can relax and enjoy the sounds and senses of the African Bush as night settles.
After dinner you will retire to your individual platform and enjoy sleeping under the star studded sky – your experience heightened as you share the wilderness at night, while safely guarded by our observant guides.
The rumble of the elephant passing by or the roar of the lion at the nearby waterhole, are the only noises that might disturb guests in this peaceful wilderness.
The following morning, guests will enjoy a light snack after which they will depart back to Rhino Post for a hearty brunch.
The Sleep Outs are highly dependent on weather conditions. PLEASE be aware that should the weather be unfavourable on the day of the Sleep Out (heavy rain) or if there has been heavy rain in the days preceding the Sleep Out, guests may have to remain at Rhino Post (due to the platforms being inaccessible).
